In my 15 years of parenting, I’ve DISCOVERED so many different ways of PLEASING my little people:)– custom and spontaneous ice cream parties & pop corn stores, with all the many delights in between. But no one TREAT or EXPERIENCE could ever satisfy the taste of ambition found in reaching new heights.
There’s something about leveling up your skills that makes the body warm inside. When children first start walking, most times – their faces light up with an indescribable level of excitement. Then day after day, times goes by and they start to develop more, and more and more. Through each difficult encounter, they face adversity and tackle it with the ambition to become a successful sitter, then a successful, crawler, then a successful stander, then a successful walker, runner, and eventually they reach new heights through the art of JUMPING.
In so many ways, that journey grows and never truly ends. As adults, we forget to celebrate our successes because it’s been so long since we’ve accomplished our first steps. We often forget that learning how to stand, move, and rise is still a part of our journey.
Environments may change, shift, and shake, but the process remains the same. When we learn to normalize learning, we begin to realize that common sense only becomes common after we’ve acquired the knowledge, skill, or ability to form the habit.
We can experience a higher rate of success when we learn how to build each other up in whatever it is we are learning or becoming. Each new response, barrier, and reaction creates momentum—charting a direction toward growth.
Through repetition, resilience, and the willingness to try again, we learn to have faith that all things are possible through Christ our Lord.
